The 2010 FIFA World Cup – Lessons For Young Players!
Like many past World Cups, the excitement, the competition, the technical display from the players and the venue of South Africa, have already provided many lessons in the first round of competition. The skill of the competitors has been unparalleled. The goals scored to date have come in many different forms, some brilliant in nature, some from pure luck, some even from goalkeeping gaffes. The sportsmanship has surpassed international expectations and the environment inside the stadiums aside from the Vuvu’s has been colorful and vibrant.
Lessons for Players – Watch as many games as possible! You will be watching the game played at the highest level! Pick out your favorite players and watch them throughout the tournament. Study their ball skills, their moves both on and off the ball. Track their work rate and how they transition from offense to defense and defense to offense. Master two or three of their most exciting skills with the ball and show your friends and family!
Perhaps the World Cup will inspire you as it has many players throughout the world to become a creative player with a passion to play the game at the highest levels!
Enjoy the games!
US Club Regional Competition – Modesto, CA
The Tri Valley SC Santos, United and Real teams recently completed competition at the US Club Soccer Regional tournament in Modesto. The teams enjoyed some success while playing the region’s most talented teams.
The TVSC Santos finished the Super Group competition with a 1-2 record and finished third in their bracket. The TVSC Santos led in all three games played, but suffered a few defensive breakdowns which resulted in two tough defeats at the hands of the MVLA Raptors, the tournament finalist, and the Barcelona 92. Their win came against the Deportivo Salinas by a 6 – 2 margin.
The TVSC United competed in the US Club Super Group for the U16 Boys and finished with a 1-2 record. The team, led by Coach Lothar Osiander, lost a tough opening round match to MP Strikers 2-1 and followed up with a 5-0 loss to the tournament finalist Winchester SL Boca Jr. from San Jose. The United rebounded from two defeats with a solid win over Atlas 2-1, to finish a very respectable third place in group play.
The TVSC Real competed at the US Club Premier level and was quite unlucky not to advance to the final round. After dominating tournament finalist CD Tigres and leading at half time, the Real suffered two defensive breakdowns and a blown call by the match official to lose 3-1 in a very competitive match. Next up for the TVSC Real was Boca from Sacramento. The Real completely dominated the match from start to finish and recorded a 3-1 win. In the third and final match in group play, the Real gave up an early goal and then dominated the match to its conclusion. After having a disputed offside goal called back, hitting the post twice, and creating several chances to goal, the Real fell to Santa Rosa United 1-0 to finish the tournament with a 1-2 record.
